I would love to answer questions if you have them. I found it difficult to find good tutorials on how to do this and so here you go. It was months of work discovering the best programs and approaches to clean up this mess I made. I found them to be incredible, so I never needed to touch it. Something to keep in mind is that PhotoSweeper has a built-in system to intelligently choose photos and you can play around with those in the settings. PhotoSweeper is a fast, precise & super efficient tool to eliminate similar or duplicate photos even in huge photo collections. In all my testing I trust the program and so now you are free to delete those photos. Once the results are in, I would recommend scrolling through them to see how well it did to catch anything that might be incorrect. To give you an example I had about 400GB of pure photos on my Macbook Pro’s internal storage and it took overnight to scan them. Like it might take a long while so be patient. When you start the scan, it will take some time. The blur radius ensures that PhotoSweeper accurately finds and groups those pictures and doesn’t accidentally group incorrect pictures. Think of your family pictures or baby pictures with names, dates, places, etc. The reason is that, like me, you might have pictures of printed photos and the back side of them with handwritten text. ![]() Grouping: Check the box to combine groups with similar photos When you use PhotoSweeper there are some important settings you will want to use to make sure that we are getting accurate and trustworthy results:Ĭomparing By: Similar photos (middle option)īitmap Size: Highest Quality / 128x128 pixels Now can dive into PhotoSweeper and start the scan. Another reason we do this is that we can scan an individual subfolder for duplicates to help us get some quick wins. I would recommend smaller than 50GB if you can. You can also make the size of the folder whatever you want. The reason for this is to help speed the process up but then also if you have a file name that is already in use, but the photos are obviously different you can simply move it into a different subfolder. Now what I would highly recommend is you create subfolders that break down even further into small chunks like such: This helps quite a bit with speed down the road. Our goal is to sort through all the files and put them into either one of these folders. I had photos all over the place on different hard drives and so the first order of business is to create two folders PhotoSweeper – Mac App Store - $10 Ģ TB Samsung T7 SSD Not all of them are required but I thought I would include them in case you found them helpful. Here are the tools that I’ve used to help me with this process. ![]() Now, something to keep in mind is that this is done on a Mac, so I’m sorry to my PC friends out there. After months of research and trying different approaches and programs I figured out to successfully de-dup +2TB of photos and videos. I would have my personal library mixed in with my family’s and would have copies scattered on different hard drives as well. ![]() For a long time, I’ve had an issue with seemingly endless duplicate photos and videos. ![]()
